Conseguentemente fu lasciata in eredità alla sorella Costanza,
la quale ando’ in sposa al Conte Ugolino della Gherardesca. Ri-
mase cosi’ la proprietà alla famiglia dei Conti della Gherarde-
sca per oltre 300 anni.
La storia di questo complesso è quindi ricca di presenze e
passaggi che hanno arricchito le sue mura conferendogli un
fascino che il recente restauro ha sapientemente valorizzato.
Le 116 stanze e suite sono ricavate in parte nel palazzo papale
e in parte nell’ex Convento delle Suore di Santa Maria Ripara-
trice, cinquecentesco, oggi denominato Conventino.

Il Four Seasons forentino è un city ho-
tel o un resort?
Ha tutte le caratteristiche per essere con-
siderato un Urban Resort grazie al suo
monumentale parco di circa 5 ettari nel
cuore della città (il giardino privato piu’
grande di Firenze) oltre alla magnifca Spa,
piscina, terrazze e ristoranti all’aperto.
Come si posiziona tra le proprietà della
catena?
Non risulta esserci al momento all’interno
della nostra Compagnia un albergo con
queste caratteristiche a renderlo, a detta
dei nostri, uno dei piu’ prestigiosi, se non
l’unico.
Quali sono state le sfde maggiori nel trasformare la re-
sidenza di un cardinale in una struttura ricettiva con un
nome così importante?
La sfda maggiore è stata quella di mantenere e valorizzare
delle strutture cosi’ antiche, cariche di storia e di arte e trasfor-
marle in dimore con tutti i comfort moderni per incontrare le
esigenze della piu’ sofsticata clientela. Ben 7 anni di lavori di
ristrutturazione ci sono voluti per consegnare alla nostra città
di Firenze un gioiello tenuto nascosto per ben 5 secoli.

Is the Florentine Four Seasons a city
hotel or a resort?
It has all the characteristics to be
considered an Urban Resort thanks to its
5-hectre monumental park in the city
centre (the largest private park in Florence),
besides its magnifcent Spa, pool, terraces
and outdoor restaurants.
Where does it stand among the
properties of the chain?
At the moment there does not seem to
be a hotel in our company with these
characteristics that make it - in our opinion
- one of the most prestigious, if not the only
one.
What were the biggest challenges in transforming the
residence of a cardinal into a hospitality structure with a
name so important?
The most arduous challenge was maintaining and enhancing
structures so old, rich in history and art, and transforming
them into an abode with all the modern comforts to meet the
demands of the most sophisticated clients. A good 7 years
were necessary to deliver to our city of Florence this jewel kept
hidden for 5 centuries. All of that was possible with the attentive
restructuring, combined with the special collaboration of the
Monuments and Fine Arts Ofce of Florence, which immediately
